2023 has been an exciting year for us, and we can't wait to share our favorite moments.
Economic Investments Continue in Brownsburg
From January through June 2023, businesses have committed an estimated $55.9 million in capital investment in the Town. Some of these developments include:
New and Enhanced Partnerships
We are thrilled to have partnered with even more organizations this year to provide exceptional services and support exciting new amenities and programs for our residents. At the start of the year, we launched our "Discover Brownsburg" magazine in collaboration with the Greater Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce to highlight and showcase our community and local businesses. Thanks to the support of Badger Infrastructure Solutions and IU Health West, we completed several essential repairs to Blast Off Playground, ensuring it remains a safe and fun place for families to gather.
Over the summer, our Brownsburg Farmers Market hosted multiple organizations through our themed weeks, including Non-Profit Day, Artisan Night, Kid Biz Night, and even the free Corn Roast! In September, our Street Department, Police Department, and Brownsburg Fire Territory joined Calvary Learning Academy for their "Touch a Truck" event. Our Police Department hosted an unforgettable "National Night Out" event with 93 partner organizations, while our Parks Department put on a spectacular Christmas Under the Stars parade with over 50 floats from community businesses and non-profit organizations.
Looking ahead, we are excited to partner with Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park and Visit Hendricks County this spring to host our "Race to the Eclipse" event on April 8!
New Brownsburg Businesses
It has been an exciting year as more businesses move and expand in Brownsburg! We are proud to have celebrated more than 32 businesses this year with ribbon-cutting ceremonies in partnership with the Greater Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce. In addition, we supported nearly 40 businesses through our Shop Local Brownsburg campaign with a passport activity to encourage residents to shop locally.
Brownsburg Racing Memorial Trail
Earlier this year, we celebrated the unveiling of the Brownsburg Racing Memorial Trail in partnership with the Indiana Racing Memorial Association. This 2.1-mile trail honors local racing legends who have significantly impacted the motorsports industry. Visitors can learn about the lives and accomplishments of racing legends such as Larry Rice, Robbie Stanley, and others through the five iconic motorsports legends across Williams Park, Town Hall Green, Arbuckle Commons, and White Lick Creek Greenway.
Brownsburg's National Recognition
Our community continues to be recognized nationally for our job growth, motorsports, parks & trails, schools, public safety, and many more amenities.
Brownsburg ranks 6th as one of the safest cities in Indiana by Safewise, up four spots from 2022. Our community is one of three Indiana cities in the top 10 that saw a decrease in both violent and property crime rates.
In addition, Brownsburg ranks as one of the top 2% of WalletHub's best small cities in America, coming in at 27 - a 26-spot improvement since 2022.
Communication Boards at Playgrounds
Playgrounds in Brownsburg now have nonverbal communication boards thanks to a grant from The Parks Foundation of Hendricks County. The boards, located at Arbuckle Acres Park, Stephens Park, and Williams Park, create inclusive play spaces and facilitate play narration and language learning. Each board features common words, numbers, and symbols to help children express their thoughts and feelings. The communication boards aim to eliminate communication barriers that could make kids feel isolated or discouraged and provide increased accessibility for individuals with communication impairments.
Brownsburg's 175th Anniversary of Incorporation
2023 marked the 175th anniversary of the Town of Brownsburg's incorporation. On June 24, 1848, the Town's first election saw ten votes cast. From 300 acres of parkland to the Indianapolis Raceway Park, nearly 1,000 businesses, 18 miles of trails, and a population of 31,193 residents, Brownsburg is a unique and vibrant community.
Next year, Montrose Farms will celebrate its bicentennial as the first land settled in Brownsburg, while Hendricks County will also celebrate its bicentennial with events throughout the year.
Over $2.3 Million Awarded in Grants to the Town of Brownsburg
The Town of Brownsburg continues saving public funds by seeking reliable funding sources. This year, we were awarded over $2.3 million in grants. These grants have funded road resurfacing, outdoor exercise equipment at Virgil Park, public safety, water, stormwater, and road improvements.
Live Music Returns to Parks
To celebrate the return of live music to the parks after three years, we hosted five free concerts as part of our "Summer Soundtracks" series. From June to August, we showcased some of the most talented national and up-and-coming artists. Kicking things off at Arbuckle Acres Park with Grammy-nominated Jon McLaughlin drew a crowd of almost 500 people.
In September, we organized our sixth Blues in the 'Burg event, a free outdoor music festival held at Arbuckle Acres Park. The festival showcased over 7 hours of national and regional blues artists performing across two stages, including Grammy-nominated headliner Janiva Magness. This year's festival saw record-breaking attendance, with nearly 2,000 people joining us throughout the day for good music, great food, and drinks.
It was a great way to bring the community together. We look forward to continuing this tradition in 2024 and bringing even more fantastic acts to our parks.
Leadership Brownsburg Academy
Last February, we launched our Leadership Brownsburg Academy, an eight-session seminar designed for Brownsburg residents ready to take the next step in becoming community leaders and improving the quality of life in Brownsburg. Throughout the program, participants learned and visited various departments while gaining insight into operations and decision-making. The 2023 class had twelve participants who graduated in October. We are excited to continue this program in 2024 with the hope of inspiring more future leaders to join.
