A Look Back on 2020

Posted on December 7, 2021 at 7:47 AM by Shelby Abner

2020 will go down in history as the year of the pandemic. While COVID-19 created multiple challenges for Brownsburg Parks’ staff, there also were bright spots within the year.

  • Phase 1 of the White Lick Creek Greenway has been completed. Residents and visitors may now walk or bike from the Brownsburg business district – starting at the trailhead at I-74 and Green Street – to Arbuckle Acres Park. The trail offers beautiful views of White Lick Creek and the nature that lives along its banks.

  • Thanks to everyone following social distancing guidelines, we hosted hundreds of visitors at Blues & BBQ in September. It’s clear Brownsburg residents (and visitors from nearby) love the Blues! This year, our goal is to grow this celebration of great music into a two-day event. Keep your fingers crossed that this can happen!

  • Stephens Park received a makeover that has transformed the little-known neighborhood park into a must-visit site. Pickleball enthusiasts will enjoy access to six courts, while a new playground will include play features that meet the needs of children of all abilities. A walking trail encircles the 4-acre park and a year-round restroom provides daily comfort. The park will open in its entirety by early spring.

  • We were pleased to offer a safe shopping environment at this summer’s Brownsburg Farmers Market, which we expanded from June through September. The Town appreciates the support of IU Health Hospital West for its continued sponsorship of this important way to give access to fresh fruits and vegetables to residents throughout the area.

While the pandemic caused us to cancel the majority of our in-person programming, we were pleased to offer virtual fitness and recreation opportunities, and we were proud to continue to provide our B.A.S.E. and PEAK programs.

What didn’t change in 2020 is our commitment to providing beautiful parks, recreation activities and quality facilities to enhance residents’ health. We have created new and unique activities for 2021 that we think you and your family will really enjoy. See you in our parks and on our trails!
