The Hendricks County Recycling District promotes recycling, waste reduction, and responsible waste management within Hendricks County. The District operates Yard Waste Recycling Centers and Recycling Drop-off Centers in the county, encouraging Hendricks County residents to use the facilities. In addition, the District sponsors Tox-Away Days each year to allow residents to dispose of their Household Hazardous Wastes and problem wastes properly. Visit the District's website links below for more information on its programs. Call (317) 858-6070 for more information.

Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District offers several ways to recycle:

  • Recycling Drop-off Centers: There are two 24-hour centers in Coatesville and North Salem. An attended recycling center is open in Lizton on Tuesdays (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.), Wednesdays (1 p.m. – 7 p.m.), Thursdays (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.), and Saturdays (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.). These centers collect traditional recyclables, including cardboard, paper, glass bottles, jars, metal, aluminum food and beverage containers, and single-use plastic containers that hold food, drink, detergent, shampoo, etc.
  • Tox-Away Days: For Hendricks County residents to properly recycle or dispose of chemicals, bulbs, batteries, medicines, medical sharps, tires, electronics, and more. Regulations prohibit businesses and other organizations from participating. Some fees are required for appliances, electronics, and tires. Dates and locations vary throughout the year.
  • Yard Waste Recycling Centers: These centers are located in Brownsburg and Plainfield and are open from April-November. Materials at these sites will become mulch and compost to be utilized again instead of becoming just another load of trash. Pricing varies based on types of yard waste.

Recycled Bags

Thanks to a grant from the Hendricks County Recycling District, the Wastewater Department handed out reusable bags made from recycled bottles during community events in 2022. As a result, we estimate a reduction of 28,184 single-use plastic bags per year from community engagement efforts in 2022.
